Shock number two came in the mail this morning, from Twitter. They told me my account (that I don't use, thankfully, I have different one that I somewhat use) was hijacked. So I log in and see that the hacker has added 400 people to the following list
I had a fun time removing all of them. Yeah. After that, I got a mail from Ubuntu Forums saying that their site has been hacked and user passwords stolen. Yey. That solved the mystery how the hacker stole my twitter account, because I use the same email and pass almost everywhere (thankfully, my emails, paypal, dA and other more important accounts have a different password). So, I had more fun time tracking down all my accounts throughout the internet and changing my password. I can't remember by far all the places I've registered at. I had to google myself in the end
And now we come to the actual reason I'm writing this journal. When I googled my nickname to find all the places I've registered, I've come across a series of web sites (I suspect some at least are from the same author, the designs are similar) that are collecting random images from the internet and presenting it as their own (or their user's) material. Not explicitly, but one is calling itself a "Online Tattoos Designs gallery for Everyone" - and it doesn't have Tattoo designs but random images collected all over the net and just thrown in there in rough categories, including bags, shoes, computer parts and what not. Obviously collected by a bot and not a living person. I found a disturbing number of deviantArt art there - the way it's scraped off the net, it keeps the same name as it has on dA (Tiger Drawing By ohthatsjustlovely On DeviantArt, for example). A lot of the pictures have a word "print" in the title. The sites are not selling anything, but they're bursting with porn pop-ups. I have no idea if this is "normal", but it definitely doesn't feel right. The sites are ugly and pointless, and I don't see they serve any purpose. Still, I have no idea how to react. Is this something to fuss about? Is this normal? Should I just accept it as quirks of the internet? Does it qualifies as art theft? It's not just my images, there's a whole lot of deviations up there, I think people should know about it.
The sites in question are:vanuax.com
<-- I can't find it, but google says there was a drawing of mine on this site at one pointdafashiondesign.com/tiger-draw…
<-- this is off dAdafashiondesign.com/snow-leopa…
<-- my drawingaxsoris.com/
<-- this too, according to google had my drawing on itexpokerja.com/
<-- this too besthomedecorators.com
Just a warning, they have a lot of pop-ups.
